"But you should know, I'm a horror writer."
Plus - a contest win, dark westerns collection, and a serial!
Before we jump in, I’d like to thank you all for joining me on this journey. I’ve been having a ton o’ fun writing these stories; believe it or not, these dark tales have let a lot of light into my life.
“Ok man, give me your best shot.”
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to star in your own horror story? I no longer need to wonder because the legend
has included me in their latest dark tale! I really wasn’t prepared for the feelings that swirled within me while reading this one. I am a paid subscriber to Age of Aquarius, and it’s amazing—check out this perk!Paid subscribers get to star as a character in one of my stories. They also get curated behind the scenes content, which could include anything from astrology to quantum physics, what I’m reading to what YouTube rabbit hole I’ve fallen down. Those come out no more than once a month.
Give it a read and let E.J. know what you think!
Contests - yay or no fuckin’ way?
Do you enter competitions? I love them. I’ve run over fifty 5k races and probably entered just as many writing contests. Guess how many I’ve won? That’s right, none—until last month. Last month, I won a micro writing contest. I’m still doing my end zone shuffle. But here’s the thing: the reason I like contests isn’t because I ever thought I’d actually win; it’s because competitions allow me to challenge myself. These competitions often have unique themes, word count limitations, and genres I don’t typically write in. They force me outside of my comfort zone.

Bury Me Beneath the Valley Oak.
My forthcoming collection of dark westerns is coming down the pike with some momentum. I’ve been working with Spare Press, and it has been a dream. Pre-orders aren’t officially up, but if you’re interested in snagging a copy this summer, send me a note so we have a better idea of how many we’ll need to produce. Right now, we think it’s somewhere between 5-100,000 copies. 🤪 Paid subscribers will get this at no additional cost.
Here are a couple of the tales that will be included in Bury Me Beneath the Valley Oak.
Wait, are you serial?
Paid subscribers have been enjoying (I’m assuming) my limited 4 part serial, Doomsday Snooze Button. While this serial is only offered to those subscribers, I will open it up to free subs in a month or so. I’m acutely aware that there is only so much chedda to spread around. I subscribe to the paid tier of only a few of my fellow writers. If I had unlimited resources…
What’s it about?
Stage fright, imposter syndrome—whatever you want to call it, Steve is in the thick of it. And if that weren’t bad enough, now he’s locked in the restroom of The Gut Punch— where he’s set to play his first show in seven years—but what is that gurgling sound coming from the toilet? And why is there a bloody tooth in the sink?
you are having a very badass week Sean! count me in for the story collection, i cant wait to read it. i have never written anything remotely western before but i was so inspired by apple snake.
I appreciate what you were saying about contests, Sean. I needed to hear that! It’s not about thinking you’re going to win, it’s about challenging yourself.
